The Knowledge Behind Houlihan Smith and Co

Houlihan Smith & Company, a member of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, was founded in 1996 and ever since then has been providing investment banking services to the public and private sectors. Houlihan Smith

provides financing services as well as financial advisory services with a team of more than 125 talented professionals in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York who are also part owners. Since 2006 Houlihan Smith has been implementing an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), so the people who work for this broker-dealer are invested in the success of the business.

The range of Houlihan Smith services includes financial opinions, merger and acquisitions advisory, financing, and other corporate advisory services. In 2006, after being in business for ten years, Houlihan Smith began working feverishly at valuing Level 3 securities. Since then the firm has valued billions of dollars of the securities in union with large public companies, hedge funds and private equity firms to comply with the financial reporting requirements. Houlihan Smith & Company also provides portfolio / individual security valuation, M&A advisory, risk analysis and traditional investment banking services for several hedge funds and private equity firms.

Houlihan Smith has provided independent valuations of Auction Rate Securities as well, which are long-term securities that hold auctions every seven to 35 days, for numerous Fortune 1000 companies. Unfortunately, Houlihan Smith saw the credit crisis and lack of liquidity in the credit markets cause these auctions to fail in late 2007, but afterwards they worked closely with clients and leading audit firms to independently value these Auction Rate Securities. In some cases Houlihan Smith located secondary markets for their clients to loosen these securities from their portfolios.

Now Houlihan Smith is operating all of their investment banking activities under the Houlihan Smith Capital Markets umbrella, offering knowledge of the middle market and transactions between $10 million to $250 million. With more than 500 mergers, acquisitions, capital restructurings, ESOP advisory engagements, private placements and financial restructurings, they have plenty of knowledge.
